The City and Town of Cedarburg are proud to announce the formation of the Joint Bicycle & Pedestrian Facilities Ad Hoc Committee, a collaborative initiative dedicated to enhancing safety, accessibility, and connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians across the community.

Established through Resolutions approved by both the City and the Town elected bodies, this limited term Ad Hoc Committee brings together residents, municipal staff, and stakeholders from both jurisdictions to evaluate existing infrastructure, recommend improvements, and promote long-term planning for active transportation routes.

Committee meetings will be held on the first Thursday of each month at 8:00 a.m., alternating between Cedarburg City Hall and Town Hall. These meetings are open to the public, and community input is encouraged.

Why was this Ad Hoc Committee formed?

The City reached out to the Town with the idea of creating an Ad Hoc Committee to provide a structured approach to assessing current conditions, gathering public input, and recommending improvements. The Town’s primary interest lies in collaboration on potential future connection points, as a Town bicycle network is already in place.

• The City of Cedarburg has identified a desire for improved bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and an intention to create a City Plan to enhance safety, accessibility, and connectivity for residents and visitors.
• The Town of Cedarburg has an existing Bicycle Trail network, as well as an original plan titled, “Master Bicycle and Pedestrian Route Plan” completed in 1999. The current Town Comprehensive Park Plan refers to the “Master Bicycle and Pedestrian Route Plan” as being incorporated as a part of the Comprehensive Park Plan, while being a stand-alone document.

Committee Objectives Include:
• Assessing current pedestrian and bicycle facilities and potential future connections between City and Town facilities
• Recommending policies, projects, and initiatives to improve safety and accessibility
• Engaging residents in shaping future infrastructure and route planning
• Coordinating with Ozaukee County and neighboring communities
• Exploring funding opportunities, including state and federal grants
• Reporting findings and recommendations to the City Common Council and Town Board

What is the anticipated outcome of the Ad Hoc Committee work? Final recommendations will be presented to each governing body.

• City of Cedarburg anticipates: The City aims to develop a comprehensive plan that aligns with existing City policies, including their Comprehensive Plan, Park and Open Space Plan, and broader mobility strategies.
• Town of Cedarburg anticipates: Present findings along with any adopted City plan to the Town Board. The Board could then direct staff to budget for updates to the Town’s Master Bicycle and Pedestrian Route Plan and/or Town Comprehensive Park Plan in future years.
