The Town of Cedarburg Landmarks Commission and Town Board proudly announce the winner of the 2026 Landmark Preservation Award: Covered Bridge Farm.
The winner provided photos, a written history of the property and an exterior tour. The Landmarks Commission commended the winner for the thoughtful restorations.
The Town Landmarks Commission Chair, Kari Esser, commented, “Nothing captures the hearts and imagination of Cedarburg residents and visitors more than the iconic Covered Bridge over Cedar Creek. It was built in 1876 on a key piece of the original 80 acre parcel settled by Irish immigrants in 1844. The pioneer families, and those who followed, farmed this land and built a pair of 19th century barns on higher ground. Today’s owners have cared for the old barns and kept up the boards, beams, windows, and doors, for future generations. Like the famous bridge close by, the age-old presence and simple dignity of these historic buildings endures. It’s fitting that the 150th Anniversary of the Bridge coincides with Covered Bridge Farm winning the 2026 Town Landmark Preservation Award.”
The winner will receive a framed proclamation presented by the Town of Cedarburg Landmarks Commission at an Open House at the Town Hall on May 28, 2026 at 5pm. The public is invited to attend to celebrate the winner. The winner will be honored with a permanent bronze memorial plaque for their winning structure.
Members of the Town Landmarks Commission include Kari Esser, Carol Boettcher, Drew Nelson, Tim Rasmussen, Kyle Rosengren, Jeanie Rudich, and Lance Schaefer.
The Landmarks Commission plans to open applications for the 2027 Landmarks Preservation Award on Jan. 1, 2027. Interested parties may contact Sara Jacoby, Clerk/Asst. Admin. at Town Hall with any questions on the Landmark Award at 262-377-4509, or email sjacoby@townofcedarburgwi.gov.
